In Istanbul, Opened the Widest Bridge in the World
On 26 of August Istanbul hosted the opening ceremony of the third bridge over the Bosporus, named in honour of the 9th Ottoman Sultan Selim I Yavuz (the Redoubtable).
The event was attended by the top officials of the Turkey and foreign guests, including the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, President of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic.
Construction of the bridge was completed within 39 months. The total length of the bridge is 2164 meters, the height - 322 meters, width - 59 meters. This bridge is the widest in the world, as well as the longest suspension bridge with the railroad tracks.
On the bridge there is organized traffic in 10 lanes: eight for the automobiles and two for railway.
The bridge will relieve traffic arteries of the Turkish metropolis due to the fact that transit trucks will use this route. Bridge Yavuz Sultan Selim will help Turkey to save three billion lire annually. The cost of the project is three billion dollars.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was invited to the opening ceremony, announced that Turkey is preparing for the implementation of new projects. "We are completing the project of channel " Istanbul "and are preparing to build a bridge in Canakkale (Dardanelles)."
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that the bridge Yavuz Sultan Selim is not only for Istanbul. "It can be useful for those who follow the historic Silk Way, which connects Europe and Asia. This bridge is the crown of the most beautiful creations, combining culture and people."
The new bridge is opened for the passage from August 27, 2016 and until August 31, the passage through this bridge will be free. After this date the price for private transport will be approximately $ 3.
